Earlier this year, I took a trip to Belarus, my native country, and had a chance to visit the birthplace of Polish/Belarussian/American revolution hero Thaddeus Kosciusko. He is one of my favorite historic figures, and I got very inspired by the landscape and history of the place. “Thaddeus Kosciusko's Native Land” became the first painting of my “Trip to Belarus” series. To create this piece I worked with Pan Pastels and Sennelier Soft Pastels on La Carte paper. I used tinted blues, grays, yellows and greens Pan Pastels to find proportions and create the right relationship between the darks and lights. Once I was satisfied with the balance, I added details and volume using Sennelier soft pastel sticks.
