Reflections on the Hunt

There is a cow pasture about five minutes from my home that is frequently flooded. It attracts a wide variety of birds, some of which are year-round residents, others flying through on their way elsewhere. On the day I saw this Great Egret hunting, the sky was clear and the light was beautiful. I had arrived at just the right time to capture excellent reference for this painting....images that showed the water, reflections and shadows beautifully.
There is a fair amount of detail in this piece but I did a tremendous amount of editing in order to capture the graceful nature of this scene.
