In this painting, I tried an experimental technique. I did it on 140 lb. watercolor paper with two acrylic underpaintings. In the first, I thinned the acrylic paint with water to the consistency of watercolor; then I added texture with undiluted acrylic paint applied with a damp sponge. I then completed the painting by applying pastel over the underpainting.
