These are horses, not mine, but that I see every week on the days I ride. I observed them and took a number of reference photos in the early summer, when most of their shedding is in process, and their backs and shoulders itch. This mutual scratching is done between horses who are trusted friends. Both T and Rowdy are on the low ends of the pecking order in the cohort they pasture with, so this behavior is an expression of friendship and trust.
