ABUNDATIA - Death and abundance
As the second painting in the series, "Abundantia" already has more of a story. While the primary goal is still aesthetics, my desire for storytelling and finding meaning has snuck in through the back door.
Half of all vegetables, fruits and flowers come from my own garden. Also, all the food here is selected according to my usual shopping criteria: regional, seasonal, organic and fairtrade.
If you will, this picture is also a statement on the subject of "foodwaste", because of course all the food pictured have wandered into my cooking pot.
Very much in the still life tradition, but not so obviously, "Abundantia" is also a prompt to think about transience. Like any photograph, this image represents a snapshot. Everything that can be seen in this picture no longer exists in this form today. A "memento mori" completely without skull.
In addition, the death of a great Buddhist teacher, whom I admire very much, falls in the time of the creation of this picture and on the marigold flower in the upper third are his initials.
