Deep Bass

I've always been fascinated by music and its ability to transport people with its evocative magic. It seems to perfume the air with atmosphere, removing us from our present surroundings and enmeshing us in its rhythms. I particularly enjoy painting from live performers, whether professionals of just people making music together. I'm intrigued by the succession of expressions that flit over their faces. Their energy is tremendous, and it comes through in the art. I started this piece with a charcoal sketch for placement on Art Spectrum paper, establishing the major shapes and and from there moving to define the key focus, the face and hand of the performer.
